The following video highlights the benefits and techniques of the newest generation 180W Greenlight XPS laser system for the management of male BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Previously, TURP, a procedure in which an electrical loop is used to cut specimens of the prostate (with risks of 4-8% transfusions, electrolyte anomalies, and prolonged hospitalization of 2-3 days) however is limited to smaller prostates less than 100g and men who are not taking any anticoagulation medications. The Greenlight laser has the advantages of little to no bleeding, no electrolyte anomalies since normal saline is used for irrigation, and is performed as an outpatient surgery. The procedure can also be offered to men with large prostates (greater than 100g), men taking blood thinner medications and those with significant comorbidities. The 3rd generation of Greenlight XPS (AMS) offers the greatest strength laser power at 180W and significantly reduces 40-50% operative times. We are proud to offer our patients the surgical management of BPH care.

  1. I had this surgery last June after going 9 months having to use a catheter to urinate so far I’m still urinating like a teenager, the draw back is I can no longer ejaculate semon,I guess it goes back into my bladder, but I still have a great sex life and no change in the feeling.

    1. +will2dmax I’m considering having this done next month before my insurance coverage change. would you sharing with me how you are currently doing.

    2. Great,it will be two years this coming June that I had the surgery, and I’m still urinating like a teenager, after having to use a catheter 6 times a day for 9 months, because I couldn’t urinate at all,my sex life has never been better, just remember that once this is done you’ll no longer ejaculate semen,it goes back into your bladder, but the sensation doesn’t change, just take it easy for a couple months after surgery, and be prepared for maybe some infections, maybe,I  had several large stones blasted out of my bladder at the same surgery so I think that’s why it took me a little longer to heal, with several infections for a few months after.

    3. +will2dmax  Thank so much for your honest input. I’m going to take everything into consideration. Once again thank you. Your input really helped.

  2. I had this surgery on August 14, 2015 in Athens, GA. It is now just over 2 weeks since the surgery and I couldn’t be more pleased. The worst thing by far was being catheterized for 3 days post-surgery, but there has been very little pain, the old wedding tackle still works great and I’m peeing like a kid again!

    1. +John B I’m considering having this done next month before my insurance coverage change. would you sharing with me how you are currently doing. Have you had any issues with ejaculation. I’ve read that one of the common negative side effects.

    2. +Tony Moreno Hello Tony. Do it! The surgery was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Retrograde ejaculation is very common with this surgery and I have that side effect myself. It was a little concerning at first, but getting used to it took no time at all. All the other enjoyable aspects of sexual relations remain the same. It’s been about 3 and a half months since my surgery and I couldn’t be more pleased. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. I’ll be delighted to share my experience. All the best!

    3. +John B Thank you so very much for getting back with me. I really appreciate it. The main reason I’m getting the procedure is because of my excessive peeing at night. Did you have this issue and has it gotten better. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep for years and am praying this is the answer .

    4. +Tony Moreno Tony, I’m happy to help! Before the surgery, I would have to get up 6 to 8 times per night. Post surgery its once or twice a night. I feel better in general because I’m now able to get a good nights sleep. I used to dread airline flights because of the almost constant urge to pee. Now I don’t even think about it. Best to you!

  3. HI Dr. Zorn,

I’m wondering why the laser fibre is not covered in a sheath to prevent the green glow outside the patient? Is the green glow in the room not a distraction?

  4. Hi, Dr. Zorn. Do you know any Urologist who uses this system (Greenlight XPS 180W) in New York City?. I am interested to undergo this procedure. Thanks in advance,
